My Visit to Boréalis

We are very pleased to welcome your class group to discover Boréalis, history centre of the paper industry. To get the most out of your visit, here is a quick guide that will help you prepare for your trip. Welcome!

Before arriving

To get your group motivated

Undoubtedly, students are easily motivated when they go to activities outside of school. To build on this anticipation, here are a few things you can do in class.

  • - Involve students in planning the visit.
  • - Introduce your group to subjects, activities and objectives of the visit.
  • - Visit our website (www.borealis3r.ca).
  • - Present audiovisual lectures, newspaper articles or other sources of information that can stimulate students' curiosity regarding the paper industry.
  • - Share expectations about the visit together and let us know!
  • - Above all, use the pre-visit activities contained in your teaching guide, which is specially designed for you!

Small technical details that may change everything

Reservations

After talking with a member of our team about your needs and expectations, you received a reservation confirmation. It is very important to note that your reservation is considered confirmed only when you have received this document.

Parking

There is a special loading dock for buses, so that students do not have to walk far. Ask your driver to stop at the front of the building on Avenue des Draveurs, a guide will be waiting and will board the bus to give safety instructions and a general idea of the activity. For this reason, it is important to ask students to remain seated when the bus stops.

** Remember, the Culture at School program will reimburse up to 75% of transport costs for students who travel to a cultural venue. Feel free to contact the person responsible for youth activities, Mélanie Brisebois at mbrisebois@v3r.net, to find out more!

Group welcoming

Several specific activities require your group be divided into sub-groups of 5 to 6 students. If possible, plan teams in advance and match each accompanying adult. This will save precious time that can be spent on the activity!

For little bellies

By informing our staff, you are welcome to grab a bite at Boréalis. However, you must notify your group that no microwave or refrigerator will be placed at their disposal. Therefore, lunches must be planned accordingly.

During your visit

Student behavior

It is important that students know and understand in advance about how the characteristics of a school are different from a learning space, where objects are unique, irreplaceable and fragile. To do this, it is important to present a few little instructions to the group, instructions that will be repeated upon their arrival at Boréalis.

  • - Chatter, but not too loud! There is no shouting at a museum!
  • - Let's open our ears! Listen to the guides when they speak.
  • - Respect the other people who use the centre by throwing waste in the trash.
  • - Is this a place where we can run? Certainly not!
  • - Learning is what we are here for!
  • - Let the adults handle objects that are sharp or hot.
  • - Interrogate. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, but raise your hand first!
  • - Follow the guide! If we want to go pee, say it... Now!

Your contribution is essential to ensure that everything goes smoothly during the visit.

Teachers and accompanying adults of school groups have a major role to play in the success of activities. You are responsible for arriving on time, enforcing safety and ensuring the discipline of the group. Your cooperation and support from the beginning to the end of the visit are fundamental to stimulating student participation during the activities, and making their visit a unique experience.

After the visit

Back in the classroom, students always have plenty to say. This is the moment to analyze the experience.

Here are some activities to do with your group after your visit with us:

  • - Discuss their impressions of the visit to determine the most popular activities, or simply to look back on the funniest moments.
  • - Carry out the post-visit activities that are in your educational guide.
  • - Develop workshops, activities and demonstrations similar to those that students attended during the visit.
  • - Come back to see us or discover other museums in the region.
